Teacher Pay Deal

Oklahoma lawmakers debate late into the night on a teacher pay raise bill. The House of Representatives narrowly passed the $474 million dollar bill by the necessary three fourths vote required of revenue measures, despite criticism from Republicans that teacher pay could be raised by eliminating waste and fraud rather than increasing taxes. Teacher Pay Deal Senate

A tax increase to fund pay raises for educators won't avert a planned teacher walkout. The increase will fund pay hikes averaging about $6,000 for teachers, but educators say it doesn't include funding for additional raises, and doesn't put enough money back into the classroom.
