The Supreme Court reacts skeptically to claims cigarette fee is a public health measure. The justices told the state the fee looks more like a tax, which requires a supermajority of lawmakers to pass. This story aired on the ONR on OETA-The Oklahoma Network. AirBnB Property Manager Targeted By The State of Pennsylvania

AirBnB Property Manager Targeted By The State of Pennsylvania

Today we talk about Airbnb property manager Sally Lad who is currently suing that state of Pennsylvania for violating her constitutional rights. Ms. Lad and Institute for Justice are suing the state due to what they call protectionist licensing laws. The state won't' let her operate her business unless she complies with their narrow view of what they call a property manager. The state can't help itself this is a voluntary transaction between the Ms. Lad and those seeking her services. There are no victims except for the government who wants to use these laws to dictate how and when homes are sold and managed. Sally only seeks to create a better life for herself, but governments across the country despise the new economy for a myriad of reasons but primarily because they can't easily control or monetize it. We've tried to expose the follies of licensing laws in general. Check out some of our previous videos for more. City Spends $250K On Giant Rubber Duck Rental

City Spends $250K On Giant Rubber Duck Rental

Today we talk about a city in Canada that spent $250k to rent the worlds largest duck. This is a prime example of out of control local government. This goes to show you the waste that takes place in cities everywhere. When questioned by Rebel Media local officials make the same tired excuses. Their answers range from "this will spur economic activity," and "we used a grant." This story took place in Canada and not the US, but I assure you I've heard city officials on this side of the border utter these same words. 2018 Election: Ted Cruz Opponent, Pelosi Hurting Dem's, & WV Gov Jim Justice

On today's show, we look at 2018 election news and talk strategy. Texas Democrat Rep. Beto O'Rourke is seeking to take on Sen. Ted Cruz for his Senate seat. The El Paso populist out raised the Republican Senator in the second quarter of 2017. The candidate launched his long shot run with the promise of not taking super PAC money and a self-imposed term limit. We also talk about how Rep. Nancy Pelosi is still a dividing figure in her own party. We talk about a very long write up on the matter in the McClatchyDC. WV governor Jim Justice switched to the Republican party at a campaign party. The long time conservative Democrat announced this at a Trump campaign rally. Finally, we talk about the Democratic, moderate Amy McGrath who is taking on Rep. Andy Barr in Kentucky's sixth district. The political novice serves as an example of the democrats new strategy to take Republican house seats by running military veterans. The clips we show highlights some of the downsides of this strategy in the Trump era. ACLU v AHA (Oklahoma Supreme Court Hearing)

ACLU v AHA (Oklahoma Supreme Court Hearing)

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma: On March 2nd, at the Oklahoma Judicial Center in Oklahoma City, a referee for the Supreme Court of Oklahoma considered both the protest and rebuttal against a ballot initiative petition to treat abortion as murder. If enacted, the measure would add a new section to Article 2 of the Oklahoma Constitution, effectively outlawing abortion as murder throughout the state. The petition to amend the Oklahoma Constitution to define abortion as murder, brought by Norman resident Thomas Russell Hunter, who filed papers on Jan. 27 for the petition, was challenged by the Oklahoma chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, on Feb. 12. Ed Choice and Urban Revitalization

Too often young families flee Oklahoma’s urban centers in order to get their children into a better school district. At the November 3 meeting at the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs, Dr. Bart Danielsen explained how educational choice policies—such as City Protection and Revitalization scholarships—can revitalize local economies, increase property values, alter family-relocation patterns, and help save the environment. Dr. Danielsen (Ph.D., University of Florida) is an Associate Professor of Business Management at North Carolina State University and the founder of Environmentalists for Education Reform (thegreenapples.org). His research interests include financial markets, real estate, and urban redevelopment. A Certified Public Accountant, Dr. Danielsen is the co-author of “Foundations of Financial Management,” one of the world’s best-selling finance textbooks, now in its 16th edition. His academic research has appeared in leading academic finance and real estate journals. Dr. Danielsen was introduced by Kirk Humphreys, chairman of The Humphreys Company, a commercial real estate development company. Humphreys was twice elected as Mayor of the City of Oklahoma City, serving from 1998 through 2003. He currently serves as a trustee of the Urban Land Institute.

City Kicks Formerly Homeless Man off His own Property

City Kicks Formerly Homeless Man off His own Property

It seems like the government would rather you be homeless then do things with your property they don't agree with. That may seem over the top but, we've clearly seen the tyrannical nature of city government in our previous episodes. Today's show we look at a story from Colorado. Clem Smith, a formerly homeless man, inherited some money so he decided he would fulfill his dream and purchase some land and build a home. The man was well on his way to bringing his American dream to fruition when the government stepped in and turned his life upside down. A busy body neighbor complained to the city of Conifer, and that's where Mr. Smith's nightmare began. Mr. Smith planned to build his own home. He bought some beautiful mountain property. The man had septic installed, power ran, and a road constructed on his own dime. He planned on building the home on his own, but he needed to stay in an RV while completing the processes. He also had a back hoe and shipping container that he purchased. The city wasn't all too happy with this. Apparently, you can only have an RV parked on your property with a home, not as a stand alone structure. This is an old tool of municipal governments they outline exactly how you can use your property. You would think they would seek to protect the liberty and property rights of their citizens. That, unfortunately, isn't the case in Conifer. Now the man faces being homeless again and losing everything. This is all due to backward victim less laws enacted to benefit collective and not the individual pursuing his American dream.  Read more here: https://www.redriverchronicle.com/single-post/2017/08/02/City-Kicks-Formerly-Homeless-Man-off-His-own-Property
