Too often young families flee Oklahoma’s urban centers in order to get their children into a better school district. At the November 3 meeting at the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs, Dr. Bart Danielsen explained how educational choice policies—such as City Protection and Revitalization scholarships—can revitalize local economies, increase property values, alter family-relocation patterns, and help save the environment. Dr. Danielsen (Ph.D., University of Florida) is an Associate Professor of Business Management at North Carolina State University and the founder of Environmentalists for Education Reform (thegreenapples.org). His research interests include financial markets, real estate, and urban redevelopment. A Certified Public Accountant, Dr. Danielsen is the co-author of “Foundations of Financial Management,” one of the world’s best-selling finance textbooks, now in its 16th edition. His academic research has appeared in leading academic finance and real estate journals. Dr. Danielsen was introduced by Kirk Humphreys, chairman of The Humphreys Company, a commercial real estate development company. Humphreys was twice elected as Mayor of the City of Oklahoma City, serving from 1998 through 2003. He currently serves as a trustee of the Urban Land Institute.
